Chapter 11 Linear Programming

چکیده

This lecture is about a special type of optimization problems, namely linear programs. We start with a geometric problem that can directly be formulated as a linear program. Let P ⊆ R d and Q ⊆ R d be two finite point sets in d-dimensional space. We want to know whether there exists a hyperplane that separates P from Q (we allow non-strict separation, i.e. some points are allowed to be on the hyperplane). Figure 11.1 illustrates the 2-dimensional case. Figure 11.1: Left: there is a separating hyperplane; Right: there is no separating hyperplane How can we formalize this problem? A hyperplane is a set of the form

Some Duality Results in Grey Linear Programming Problem

Different approaches are presented to address the uncertainty of data and appropriate description of uncertain parameters of linear programming models. One of them is to use the grey systems theory in modeling such problem. Especially, recently, grey linear programming has attracted many researchers. In this paper, a kind of linear programming with grey coefficients is discussed. Introducing th...

A System for Bank Portfolio Planning

Commercial banks and, to a lesser degree, other financial institutions have substantial holdings of various types of federal, state, and local government bonds. At the beginning of 1974, approximately twenty-five percent of the assets of commercial banks were held in these types of securities. Banks hold bonds for a variety of reasons. Basically, bonds provide banks with a liquidity buffer agai...

Presentation and Solving Non-Linear Quad-Level Programming Problem Utilizing a Heuristic Approach Based on Taylor Theorem

The multi-level programming problems are attractive for many researchers because of their application in several areas such as economic, traffic, finance, management, transportation, information technology, engineering and so on. It has been proven that even the general bi-level programming problem is an NP-hard problem, so the multi-level problems are practical and complicated problems therefo...
